Here is a list of everywhere our business money goes throughout the year…where our benjamins go. I took this straight from our tax excel sheet.
When we were contemplating being professional photographers we thought it was the perfect business because we already had cameras and what else did we need, right? Super cheap, right? So, yes this business is cool because you don’t have to buy everything all at once like you might for starting say a retail store or restaurant but it really does get quite pricey to have everything you need to do it right.

Yes, we could delete some of these companies that we hire but that would make our job harder and take more time away from us spending time to bring in new clients. We are very careful with who (whom) we hire. We aren’t frivolous with our money but we do treat our clients right.
So, if your New Years Resolution is to start a professional photography business then here are the things to consider. I’m not trying to overwhelm you one bit but I do want you to go in with your eyes open.

I dearly love this business and want you to be as happy in this industry as I am (no grumps allowed) ;).
Yes, we haven’t had to spend as much on gear this year as we have in the past which is fabulous. My dream for 2014 is a new 200 lens and to upgrade my camera. I’d also like to go on a photography workshop retreat somewhere nice. Maybe I can find one in Florida!

We are working diligently on a new project that we are very excited about. It will be ready in time for the Tacoma Wedding Expo this weekend. We can’t wait to make the news public. So far the only person who knows about this is my hair stylist. What is it about being stuck in a chair for hours on end that makes me so chatty? They must put truth serum in my tea!
This new thing will fill a need that has been requested ever since we stopped offering this 6 years ago! It’ll be good to bring it back.

It seems that each year has a certain vibe to it. From what I’m hearing around me I’m getting that people have high hopes for 2014. I’m feeling that way too. So my theme for 2014 is “Go Big or Go Home!”. The more I learn the more I realize that our dreams and goals are completely attainable as long as we set our sights on them and go for it…as long as you really do want it. So, here is my double dog dare to myself and to you to achieve great, big things for 2014! I’m not 100% sure what those things are yet. I have an idea though. So, for tonight I’ll let loose and have a great time with friends and save dreaming for another day because some of the best parts of life happen when you just…let…go!
